Method 1: Check the profile URL
Open the player's Steam Community profile in a browser.
A numeric profile URL looks like this:
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/7656119XXXXXXXXXX
The 17-digit number after /profiles/ is the SteamID64.
Copy the number or paste the full URL into the lookup.
Method 2: Paste a vanity URL
A vanity profile URL looks like this:
https://steamcommunity.com/id/example-name
The custom name is not the SteamID64.
Paste the complete vanity URL into RustPlayerLookup. When the vanity name can be resolved, the lookup converts it to the numeric SteamID64 and opens the stable account route.
Use the full URL. A loose display name may point to the wrong account.
Method 3: Copy the profile link from Steam
From the Steam client or browser:
- Open the player's Steam profile.
- Use the profile menu or browser address bar.
- Copy the complete profile URL.
- Paste it into RustPlayerLookup.
- Confirm that the result opens the expected name and avatar.
The exact Steam interface can change, but the full profile URL remains the useful part.
How to recognize a SteamID64
A SteamID64 is normally:
- Numeric
- 17 digits long
- Often begins with
7656119
Example placeholder:
7656119XXXXXXXXXX
Do not include:
- Spaces
- A trailing slash
- Query parameters
- Chat text around the number
RustPlayerLookup should trim harmless whitespace, but clean input makes errors easier to diagnose.
Why the ID matters in Rust
Rust display names are not permanent. A player can rename the account, reuse an old alias, or copy another player's name.
The SteamID64 stays with the account.
That makes it useful when you need to:
- Open the correct player
- Check a recruit
- Revisit a lookup after a name change
- Share a stable result
- Compare profile data without relying on a display name
Troubleshooting
The link contains /id/ instead of /profiles/
That is a vanity URL. Paste the full link so the lookup can resolve it.
The number is not 17 digits
You may have copied a different Steam ID format or included extra characters. Paste the full profile URL instead.
The lookup says the account cannot be resolved
Check the spelling and domain. The profile may not exist, the vanity name may have changed, or the upstream source may be temporarily unavailable.
The result has little data
The account may be private or the relevant game details may be hidden. The SteamID64 can still be correct even when the public result is sparse.
Next step
Once you have the number, open the SteamID64 lookup or run a Rust Steam lookup.
For profile fields and privacy limits, use the Rust profile lookup guide.
Questions people ask
Is SteamID64 the same as my Steam username?
No. Usernames and profile names can change or remain hidden. SteamID64 is the stable numeric account identifier.
Can I find SteamID64 from a vanity URL?
Yes, when the vanity URL can be resolved by the supported source.
Should I search a Rust name instead?
Use the Steam profile URL or SteamID64 when accuracy matters. Names can be copied and changed.
